Ellen Compares Self-Isolating in Her $40M Mansion to Being in Prison

THE CONSERVATIVE OPINION

Television host Ellen DeGeneres has drawn once again lots of criticism after uploading a video from her mansion in Santa Barbara, CA, in which she basically compares self-isolating in her luxurious home to being in prison.

The mansion in question was purchased by the couple, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi in 2019, and is a Balinese style resort located in the Montecito Community of Santa Barbara. The estate, which features 8.24 acres of land, 5 bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and luxurious indoor and outdoor spaces, a guest house, a fitness center, a cabana, and a basalt pebble infinite pool that overlooks the ocean, is priced at $40 million.

During her broadcast on Monday, DeGeneres appeared in her splendorous living room, cross-legged in a chair, wearing bohemian-style light clothes and began by thanking all those who were working on the front line - doctors, nurses, aides, firemen, police, truck drivers... - and then moved on to talk a little bit about herself, how she was living the lockdown and how she felt about being self-isolated in her paradisiacal mansion with her partner and her dog.

Ellen then dropped the bombshell that made her received criticism on social media, especially on Twitter:

"Wow, this is crazy. One thing I've learned from being in quarantine for 3 weeks now is that people - this is like being in jail, is what this is and - it's mostly because I've been wearing the same clothes for 10 days and everyone here is gay," the hostess said. "Oh the jokes I have today," she added.

After Ellen posted the footage on her Twitter personal account, users of the platform started sharing it and in a short period, the post reached millions of people. Many users harshly criticized her statements, especially at a critical time when prisoners are now considered at-risk groups during this Coronavirus outbreak.

"Oh, the jokes that you have... my son is in prison facing a high chance of getting infected. Yup, it's such a joke...," a Twitter user ironically wrote.

"She totally gets what it's like to be locked up on Ricker's for a parole violation and die from COVID-19 after being cooped up in a $40M mansion for three weeks," another user claimed.

"Ellen people who have incarcerated loved ones are scared for their health and for their lives. Your 'joke' about quarantine is not only not fun but also insensitive. Please consider that as you compare incarceration to living in your mansion," a user pointed out.

  1. I don't believe for one minute that she seriously thinks this way. If you have been watching Ellen for a long time way back with her stand-up comedy and on her shows you will see that much of her comedic ways are very dry. This is what she does. I don't believe for one second that she actually feels that way knowing her comedy. I don't care for her anymore because of her politics but I do believe she is just trying to entertain people. So settle down people. Let's not be nasty. This is what Ellen does she entertains.

    2. Of course she was serious, she has no idea how it feels but she made the joke.its like a guy degrading his wife and then she gets angry and he says I'm just joking 😂 is it ok no because it's still abuse oh but it's acceptable because she is a tv star.maybr before she speaks she should take a couple nights spent in a federal pen and see what it's like hey maybe make a show on her experience.then maybe she won't talk out her ass

  2. She's been spoiled for the last 10 years she forgot what it's like to be poor, there's only like 12% of the population that is super wealthy, she shouldn't complain about it be grateful instead she acts like a spoiled child that's on restriction, maybe put some thoughts in your words before you put your foot in your mouth

  3. Y'all got nothing better than to get mad at a comedian? I guess Chapelle was right when he said the only safe place for jokes was at a comedy club now.

  4. Ellen is a stupid ass who stole her deadpan stare from Gary Shandling. Gary, at least, said something funny before he did the stare, not so with Ellen. She's extremely overrated.

  8. I understand what Ellen meant. I’m feeling it also. I have two children that I have to do school work with every single day. Wow! What a sentence. I also have a 39 yr old son at the CMC in SLO who is worried about being infected while he is incarcerated. His last words in his last phone call to me went something like this: “I’m worried that if I make it out of here alive, everyone I cared about will be gone.”

  9. Oh,poor dear. If you can't find happiness in a Bali resort style mansion in California with more money than some third world villages; you will probably never find it.

  10. She's a pampered rich girl. She probably ought to call the OG Martha Stewart to find out what prison is really like. If you're pissed that Ellen is making fun of being in prison because you have a kid in prison, you're angry at the wrong person. Go look in the mirror.

  11. She should be happy for what she has, some of us having nothing to eat but still smiling everday

  12. I read it. She was obviously throwing a joke out there. She's a comedian. That's what comedians do. People are taking themselves too seriously. No wonder so many people are freaking out during this quarantine.

  13. Get over it people she's a comedian. That's what's wrong with this world is everybody gets butt hurt over every little thing. Of course it would be nice to us lower class people to be in a multi million dollar home for this lockdown. But not going to happen. I'm a mother of 5 and live in a 2 BDRM 1bth house and we are great. Wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm thankful for what GOD has gave me. ❤❤❤

  14. Wow
If you don't find it funny, don't watch it.
How many people saying she's not funny find humor in comedy movies nowadays? Sexual humor is SO great right? I can criticize people who find sexual humor funny all day, but I don't. I just chose not to watch it.
