Atlantic reporter George Packer, also a biographer of former President Barack Obama’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke, revealed the 2010 exchange in March. Packer cited Holbrooke’s diary as the source: According to Holbrooke’s diary, when he asked about American obligations to Afghans like the girl in the Kabul school, Biden replied with a history lesson from the final U.S. withdrawal from Southeast Asia in 1973: “Fuck that, we don’t have to worry about that. A U.S. District Court Judge in Texas has issued a decision ordering President Biden to implement and enforce former President Donald Trump’s Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) in good faith. The MPP is also known as the “Remain in Mexico” program. Biden had suspended new enrollments in the MPP program on Jan. 20, 2021, and then permanently terminated the program on June 1. The judge held that the termination was unlawful procedurally because it did not comply with the provisions of the Administrative Procedure Act (APA). The judge also held that the termination was unlawful substantively because it caused the administration to systemically violate the mandatory detention provisions in Section 1225 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson is requiring its workers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 4, making it the latest major employer to forge ahead with a mandate as the U.S. nears full approval of the shots while other firms wait for a final regulatory decision to avoid legal headaches or workplace tumult. The New Jersey-based drugmaker, which produces a one-shot vaccine against the disease, employs over 130,000 people. The company said it will offer exemptions for religious or medical reasons, but its policy is more stringent than one from Pfizer. The rival vaccine maker said this month that workers must get vaccinated or face weekly testing, but it set no deadline. Pfizer said vaccination is an expectation of the workforce.
