Democrat Senator Manchin Says He'll Support Hyde Amendment in 'Every Way Possible'

Biden has proposed a budget scrapping the Hyde amendment, an annual budget measure that prevents federal funding of elective abortions for Medicaid recipients and thus saves tens of thousands of lives from abortion each year.

In an interview with Bloomberg Government on Thursday, West Virginia Democrat senator Joe Manchin said: “I’m going to support Hyde in every way possible.”

Manchin’s commitment to protecting the Hyde amendment and his commitment to keep the filibuster will likely prevent the Hyde amendment from being eliminated outright in 2021 or 2022.
